Emotional support animal bites airline passenger

Emotional support animals provide a valuable service for the people they serve. The issue with these animals is that they aren’t always properly trained in how to deal with certain situations. Emotional support animals don’t have the same training requirements that service animals have.

A recent story has some people questioning whether emotional service animals should be allowed in certain situations. The incident occurred on a flight that was slated to leave from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A man’s emotional support animal attacked the person in the seat next to the owner.

Another passenger on the Delta flight reported that the victim’s face was bloody. The man also reportedly had blood on his shirt.

It is reported that the dog weighed approximately 50 pounds and was a lab mix. The dog’s owner was a combat veteran who was said to have been distraught over the thought that his dog might be put down because of the incident.

The dog and the owner were placed on a later flight. The dog had to fly in a kennel on that flight. Local law enforcement, however, did clear the dog to leave with the owner.

The victim in this case needed immediate medical care. There isn’t any update about his condition.

This case shows why it is crucially important for dog owners to train their animals and socialize them. When dogs attack, the victims often have a long road to recovery. They might suffer financial damages. Seeking compensation is one way that they might be able lessen the blow.
