Steps you need to take after a hit and run

Anyone involved in a car accident needs to pull over to the side of the road after colliding with another vehicle. Many times, there are various ways for the police to find evidence, and they will arrest anyone who committed a hit and run, such as one Georgia woman whom police arrested for a fatal hit and run on Christmas Eve.

Even a minor accident can result in serious injuries. You may feel hurt after a car accident, and to your dismay, see the other car drive away. While infuriating, you need to remain calm in this instance. Here are the steps to take to try to get the insurance company to cover your injuries.

Write down as much information as you can

Unless you have specific auto insurance covering you in the event of a hit and run, you need to find the other driver. To the best of your ability, you need to remember and write down pertinent details about the other vehicle. Getting the license plate number is great. However, you should also take note of the color, make and model of the vehicle. Any information you can remember will help immensely.

Call the police

You need to report the hit and run to the cops. The cops may not always come out to the scene of a car accident, especially if it was minor. However, they will always come out for a hit and run. You need to tell them precisely what transpired. Even if you do not remember any details, law enforcement still has the tools to catch the culprit. They also need to interview any witnesses in the vicinity who may be able to provide extra details.

See a doctor

You need to go to a doctor right away to determine the extent of your injuries. After this, you can contact your insurance agency to let a representative know what happened.
