We recently discussed some of the ways that retail workers can remain safe during the holiday season. These workers aren’t the only ones who need to stay safe. Other workers, including construction workers and road workers, also need to go home safely to their family members at the end of the day.
Employers have a duty to make sure that they are providing safe working conditions for all employees. During the winter months, this can include having to provide workers with protection or protocol to prevent frostbite and other cold weather issues. This isn’t too much of an issue for workers who do their duties indoors, but people in the construction industry will likely spend more time outside.
Road workers are one group of people who need special protections during the winter months, especially when there is frost, ice or snow on the ground. Under these conditions, the roads might need care. Motorists pose a hazard to these workers due to the slick road conditions. It might be difficult to impossible for vehicles to stop, which could result in a worker being struck
No matter what industry a worker is in, he or she might suffer from an injury and choose to file for workers’ compensation benefits to be able to get the medical care he or she needs or get wage replacement benefits. The protections that workers’ compensation provides for these workers is very important because they might have to take off of work while the injuries heal; however, bills won’t stop so they will need a way to make ends meet during this time.
