At-work concussions can be serious injuries

Many workers are at risk of suffering from a head injury. In the retail or restaurant industry, there is a chance of objects falling from overhead and landing on the top of the workers’ heads. One of the possible injuries that can occur is a concussion. This might be thought of as a minor injury, but it can actually be very serious.

If you are hit on the head with anything at work, you need to pay close attention to how you are feeling. There are many signs that you need to watch for if you have this happen.

  • Persistent headache
  • Feeling confused or in a fog
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Delayed response to questions
  • Slurred speech
  • Fatigue

You should seek medical care if you have any of these signs. There is a chance that some other complications might come after the concussion. These can include vertigo, or dizziness, that can last for days. Post-concussion syndrome can begin days after the concussion and last for weeks to months. If you suffer from multiple head injuries, there is also a chance that you will suffer from cumulative effects from these.

Some concussions require that you go on brain rest for a while. This would likely mean that you can’t return to work right away, which can lead to a decrease in your income. Workers’ compensation can benefit you if you have this type of injury. It can pay for the medical care you need and might also provide other benefits to you in the time after the accident.
